A group of young people at the Papua Youth Creative Hub (PYCH) will soon launch the first smartphone and laptop brand in Papua with the name TOP.ID. This is one of the achievements of the Papuan Youth Inspirational (PMI) youth organization, which is a Papuan youth organization assisted by the State Intelligence Agency (BIN).

“One of the goals of PYCH is to create new innovations for the land of Papua, for the Papuan people, which are proposed by Papuan young people themselves,” said Elia Musa Rawar, PMI Technology Program Manager on Tuesday, March 14 2023.

According to him, TOP.ID is an abbreviation for Torang Papua Indonesia. He claims that this is the first smartphone and laptop brand that was originally made by Papuan children.

Elmus explained that the TOP.ID smartphone and laptop assemblers were children from a vocational high school in Jayapura.

“Every day they are talented in electronics and computers too. So when we take them for training, we introduce them to how to open a cellphone, how to assemble a cellphone from scratch until it is suitable for use like a new cellphone,” explained Elmus.

In launching the TOP.ID brand, Elmus said that currently his party is trying to register the TOP.ID brand as an Intellectual Property Rights (HKI).

The launch of the TOP.ID brand itself will be inaugurated by Indonesian President Joko Widodo when he comes to Papua. This also coincides with the inauguration of the Papua Youth Creative Hub building as a place for Papuan young people to be free to be creative.

“So far we are in the pilot stage, we have assembled hundreds of gadget units. After that we will make promotions and start selling them after the launch, which will be inaugurated by Mr Jokowi,” he said.

The man who took an undergraduate program at Shenyang Aerospace University in China and a master’s program at Portland State University in the USA is committed to circulating TOP.ID after it is successfully launched.

“The target is apart from Papua, or maybe later it could also be Papua New Guinea, because that is the closest country to Papua and is still on the same mainland. The eastern region of Indonesia in particular,” said Elmus.
