Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Apple is urging all iPhone users to download the latest iOS 17 after the tech giant discovered 16 security issues that may have exposed users’ sensitive data.

The technology giant launched iOS 17.3 on Monday (22/1) with several features and bug fixes.

One of the vulnerabilities was discovered in Email Search, where third-party apps could access information, and another bug was found in Safari that allowed users’ private browsing activity to be visible in Settings.

The iOS 17.3 software update includes Stolen Device Protection, a feature that promises to prevent criminals from locking the accounts of users whose iPhones are stolen.

This security fix is aimed at the iPhone and iPad, which suffer from the same bug, leaving user data potentially exposed to cyber thieves.

In addition to Email Search and Safari, vulnerabilities were discovered in WebKit, the browser engine that powers Safari. Meanwhile three other vulnerabilities in WebKit likely lead to arbitrary code execution when processing web content.

Two cybersecurity experts reported a problem with Time Zone, which they said allowed criminals to view users’ phone number log systems.
