Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – A number of applications were removed from the Google Play Store because they contained viruses that could drain your account until it ran out. However, the applications on the list have already been downloaded by hundreds or even thousands of users around the world and are probably still hiding in APK form.

A new Android trojan was discovered and targets Android cellphone users. This malware disguises itself as apps related to health, gaming, horoscopes, and productivity.

The virus is a Xamalicious Trojan that uses innocent applications to bypass user accessibility features. Then he takes over the cellphone using features that are usually locked.

The Xamalicious Trojan scans the device for any information that can be used in hacking such as OS, location, contacts, passwords, and more. It then executes code to take over your device and retrieve your information.

So far, the virus has attached itself to 13 applications on Google Play which have been removed. Google removes apps from its app store, but can’t remove them from your device. So, if you have any of the following apps installed, delete them immediately:

Quoting Cyberguy, this virus does not work alone. McAfee researchers found a link to another app called “Cash Magnet” that can be installed by Xamalicious. The application automatically clicks on ads, installs applications, sends messages, and other actions to steal its victims’ accounts.

The way to avoid Xamalicious is to keep using the official application from the app store. Don’t leave the option to use antivirus software on the device. Lastly, avoid the habit of just clicking or downloading because it could be dangerous.
